From John's txt file from the show," It's not every day you see a recording like this surface. I finally got permission from the taper to bring
this recording out to you. From what I've gathered there was no known source to this show in the trading circles. I searched the internet high & low and nothing pertaining to this show turned up. So... here it is !
Guns & Roses in their prime, the boys are playing a pretty tight set and Axl's voice is strong, singing on all cylinders hitting the highs & the lows this night. At the time this show was recorded, Guns & Roses were showcasing new songs from their "G'nR Lies" album. The master cassette used
for the transfer was starting to suffer from "tape oxidation" at the very beginning and at the end of the show-I don't think you'll notice that too much as I gave my very best efforts in the digital restoration part of doing this production. I think you are really going to like this show! There is feed back coming from the speakers every now and then and no noise or hiss reduction was used in this production. I did add some bass eq to balance this recording, and the reason for that
is the taper doesn't recall where he was standing when he recorded this show, he recalls he was extremely stoned on marijuana and mentioned to me that it was loud as hell in that Montezuma Hall at SDSU. This is evident in the recording itself, the band is almost overpowering the taper's recording equipment. The taper refers to himself anonymous as the; "Mad Taper", he's brought you other recordings in the past under Let It Rip Productions. Well, anyways, I'm just glad to bring this show out to you all and as with Let It Rip Productions, justtrade 'em, torrent 'em and please do not exchange currency for the recordings we bring to you
because this recording, and especially this recording, is intended to be shared amongst fans.
Enjoy !
John "

Back into Gear

A single final obstructs my free time, otherwise I am back to posting. I am a little bummed, my recent acquisition of the Fluid's Clear Black Paper's B-side is fucked up after Try Try Try, I emailed the ebay seller to notify him of this glaring problem, no resolution. total weak sauce. Anyhow, by sheer luck I stumbled upon this blog Wilfully Obscure http://wilfullyobscure.blogspot.com/2007/10/fluid-clear-black-paper-lp-freak-magnet.html
[Still working on linking issues]
that has vinyl rips of both Clear Black Paper (Glitter house version) and Freak Magnet (Also Glitter house version). However what truly makes this link the tits is that there is another link to another blog that has their entire discography up for dl. Anyone that has any bootlegs of their shows I want them so send me emails. I have to go decode Cure bootlegs to cdrs now.
heres a sick Radio Birdman video from 1978 [PS- Radio Birdman Slays, so does fellow Aussie Rockers Asteroid B-612]

Counter Productive

So after running all day for job interviews/internship circus hoops and a group Q&A for a final, I was supposed to be working on another paper. But I got a totally rad package from ebay today. The Fluid's Subpop debut Clear Black Paper on vinyl and a cd comp of some of their later work Glue and Roadmouth. I heard about the Fluid about a year ago thanks to Dave Clifford/Buddyhead collective. Ive been looking for this on and off since then and now I finally got the treaure. The Fluid were a rock band from Denver in the late 80s and they rock. A blend of the best parts of the Stooges/MC5 and the Dolls-Option (from promo sleeve). I am kinda phoning it in tonight, too much wine and subsequently too much coffee to counter balance (not counter balancing) has left me incapable of literary merit or listening samples. Oh and check this sweet Philip K. Dick blog http://totaldickhead.blogspot.com/ it slays. I am adding it to the links in the corner. This is me leaving.

Hot Snakes

When I first began digitizing my music files I was excited now 3 days later the Honey Moon has worn off drastically. I am slowly realizing how disorganized I keep everything. I am nearly half way through official releases (about 23 gigs @192kbs) I am going lossless for live shows, though. I know nobody cares so here's something to care about HOT SNAKES!!!!

Hot Snakes (1999-2005) were a San Diego rock band comprised of John Reis, Rick Froberg, Gar Wood, Jason Kourkounis (first 2 albums)and later Mario Rubalcaba (took over for Jason on drums). They released 3 albums, a live set from JJ studios
and the last ever peel session. I think the winning formula is when Reis & Froberg join forces they make great music. Reis has a new project in the works. The new year is supposed to bring the RTFC last ever show dvd, Hot Snakes dvd and the new Beehive album.

Heres a few of my favorite cuts off a show in Colorado on November 4th 2004.
*Note files are left in wav as per show tapers request.

The Manhattan Love Suicides

from magic marker records.

Trev over at Lost Music and Indie Mp3 keened me onto the fine band. For fans of the Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, and Velvet Underground. MLS play fuzzed out, catchy noise pop. Infact, this is how Sister Vanilla (the Jim, William and Linda Reid's studio side project) should sound. No word on when they are touring the states, but they say they will be over here soon.
Here is a track from their latest 7'' out on Lost Music Records, Called "Head Over Heels" and probably my favorite MLS song to date. (links to Lost Music Records can be found to the right under better stuff on the internet).

End of Week Stuff

The week is over. Well, technically for me it is. School is in the can for the holidays. I am headed home w/ all my music to digitalize. I am rolling a baby suit case deep (mostly disorganized live stuff). The prospect of getting everything into my ipod is making me excited. I am also going to sink my teeth into my free read books that have been momentarily been put on the shelf.

Wooden Shjips

One of my favorite current bands. The Wooden Shjips are based out of SF. I had the great opportunity to see them slay at Bottom of the Hill in October. They have a slew of releases that are available right now, their S/T is killer, as are their vinyl. If you dig hypnotic drone this is your cup of tea. Sorta like Spacemen 3. I was wrecked out of my head on caffeine today trying to finish a few papers (which I did, thank you caffeine) and I threw the S/T on and it almost threw me into a primordial mush.
Heres a excerpt from the review I wrote on soundsect.com,
Wooden Shjips is a woozy, hypnotic monster of droning guitars, caveman beats, eerie keyboard melodies and sleepy hushed vocals. The album contains five tracks of pure droning bliss that swoons in a fierce, trance-like rhythm; which is both overwhelming and evocative.
Songs like “We Ask You to Ride” and “Losin’ Time” chug and hiss primitively before white shards of guitar noise sear your ear drums. Whalen’s organ shifts nonchalantly between fuzzed out spookiness and dirty boogie. “Blue Sky Bends” is all grimy swagger. Ahsanuddin and Jermier’s chunky rhythms sway coolly while Johnson takes off on a spaced out lingering guitar jam with subtle organ flourishes.
for the rest of the review head to www.soundsect.com. To Buy their shit (which I hope you do)

Dinosaur jr. Forget the Swan + More

J, Lou, and Murph play Forget the Swan. 2006-05-29
(From freesofree.net)

This was going to be my first post on a blog I attempted to create a year or so ago entitled "Forget the Swan," after arguably my favorite Dinosaur Jr. Song. Here it finally is. A great performance from the Henry Rollings Show on the IFC channel. They have a great 2007 release entitled Beyond on Fat Possum Records, the first record since 1988's BUG, with Lou back on bass. I highly recommend it!

RAISINS
Performing live in studio on MTV Europe in 1994. J. Mascis (guitar), Murph (drums), Mike Johnson (bass). Jay will melt your face off with this solo

JUST LIKE HEAVEN
They kinda own this song, sorry Robert. How I would give to hear J play A Forest.
